Week 1

Make a plan

Did you know that about 20% of small businesses fail within its first year, and 50% fail by their fifth year of business. That’s A LOT! It is a highly important that when starting a business you have a plan. Business plans include market research, needs of the area, and all the fine details about how your business will look like and how it will function. In the very least you have to conceptualize how you want your business to work. Many people skip this step, but almost always end up feeling it later if not done.

Find a Niche

If you’re going to have an online practice, it is helpful to have a niche. This is for several reasons. First, you want for the right clients to find you. Next, having a niche helps you tailor your plans, and create focused content. Finally, having a niche helps you build a brand and an organization you believe in. Many people have started blogs, websites, and coaching practices with a broad range of subjects and focusing on lifestyle, the result however, is a slow grow, versus(es) a concentrated pathway to success.

Fun fact, health and wellness is one of the most popular and heavily searched niches on the internet. There are many broad niches, so you want to go beyond the basic, travel, health and wellness, dating and relationships and cooking. When working with my clients, I show them how to break this down and pick a niche they feel comfortable with.

Think About Your Audience

Do you know where your audience hangs out? How will you reach them? What do they need from you? What do you have to offer them? A private practice is a service, so you have to think about how you will serve your audience and how your service is beneficial to them.

Create Products and Services

Your business plan will touch on products and services. Here is where they will come to life. Pick one or two things you’d like to start off with and then build from there. Are you going to write a book, make a workbook, start a podcast, or implement webinars/ courses or some combination of these? All of these have their place in an online private practice, and could be a source of passive income for you. Start slow and work you way up. Remember a business evolves, you don’t have to do it all at once.

Week 2

Implement Your Business Plan

In your business plan, you would have decided if you will be a sole proprietorship, LLC, SCorp, ect. All of these have their own benefits. In your second week, you could implement which ever one works best for you. Consult a lawyer if necessary. You would have already thought of a name for your business as well and concepts and brand related items that you want. In your plan you will also decided how you’ll get paid and what services you are offering. In this step you would begin to put some of those things in motion, get paneled if you will bill insurance, as well as file any necessary declarations.

Pick a Place Where Your Audience will find you

You can have a website, purchase a monthly platform, engage a social media group (non-clinical only), or some combination of these and so much more. What’s important in a virtual practice is having a place, preferably one that you own, where your audience can find and engage with you. With a website, you own it, and can control the content. You don’t have to be a coder to launch a website now-a-days either. You could also have a business page on social media. Those can attract and audience, however, with social media if the website was to shut down, or become less popular, you would no longer have access to the things you built on that page.

Launch

Once you have put everything together you launch and watch. The thing about an online business and most business in fact, is that you are constantly watching, growing, and evolving. So what you launch today, may be different next week. At some point, you have to publish and watch.

This is a very basic list of launching a business in two weeks. Of course, there is A LOT of intricacies and fine details that you would be combing through. And you can take your time, it doesn’t have to be a two week launch. Here is a list of how this could look:
