Why Therapists In Private Practice Need a Website

Why Therapist in Private Practice Need a Website.png

This question pops up all the time amongst licensed mental health practitioners. Often the following is asked: “Do I need a website for my private practice?” Or at least some version of that. My answer is always, yes. While some may disagree with this answer, I am a firm believer that in an increasingly online word, having a place where your clients can show up regularly is highly important. In this post I explain more on why a website for private practice in important.

It is an Evergreen Billboard

What is an evergreen billboard? It is a poster that stays live as long as you maintain it. It’s your spot on the internet when you can advertise your work. You have the ability to adjust it to the times as needed. When set up intentionally, websites can be a great driver of traffic. Once a potential client arrives they get to see your style and establish a connection with you.

You Own It

As an entrapenuer, ownership can be very important. Imagine for a moment the wonderful world of myspace. Myspace was all the rage in the early 2000’s. People would decorate their pages, add songs and pictures and meet new people. Then one day, the owner of myspace sold it and then Facebook began to take off. Myspace stopped being as relevant as it once was. And if you were utilizing that particular space for your marketing campaigns and cultivating your audience, when the market, you would have to follow. This is the case with all social media. Because you don’t own it, if the audience leaves, or swifts, you would have to follow suit. But, when you own your website, no matter what happens you control the platform. You don’t have to worry about the next craze. The audience that finds you on your site is yours to make to and you set the craze. You don’t have to worry about changing algorithms and being heard, but the audience is coming to you instead of you going to them.

Websites Can Host Your Passive Income

I’ve worked with enough therapist to know, that sometimes we get burnt out pushing 1:1 sessions on a weekly basis. With big goals of 5 and 6 figures for your business, generating passive income is bound to come up. Having your own website gives you the ability to scale to accommodate passive income. There are so many different ways you can generate passive income too. You can host an online store and sell products you made. You can create online memberships. You can have email challenges. And the best part is, you can do it through your website.

Is it Worth it?

You have to decide if hosting a website is for you. I certainly believe that having one is certainly worth it. And, with so many ways of starting one up, the cost would likely pay for itself. To break it down in terms of 1:1 sessions. Yearly maintenance of a website can be anywhere from 1 to 4 sessions. You could DIY and start up something or you could hire someone in to do it for you. Your options are pretty broad.
